Grim Lessons from the Field: On War Crimes and Genocide

Amidst the devastation wrought in conflict there is difficulty distinguishing between war crimes and ‘normal rules of combat.’ On April 12, set against the backdrop of the death and destruction in Ukraine by Putin, experts from the field will discuss the intricate legal nature of trying war crimes and preventing genocide.

Moderated by Rose Gatens, retired Director, Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education at Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Gregory Stanton, Founder and President of Genocide Watch, and Dr. Rebecca Hamilton, assistant professor of law at American University’s Washington College of Law, will bridge a pernicious past with a contemporary conflict to better understand how we can work to prevent history from continuing to repeat itself.
