Forgotten Frontiers: Jewish Diaspora, Identity, and Survival on the Asian Continent
Hosted By: Haberman Institute
The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies presents a three-part online series exploring the little-known histories of Jews across the Asian continent. The program will trace Jewish life in China, India, and Southeast Asia, examining how communities developed distinctive identities through minimal antisemitism and deep engagement with surrounding cultures. Sessions will also consider encounters between Jewish groups, the role of Baghdadi Jews in assisting Holocaust refugees in Shanghai, and the postcolonial migration of Asian Jews to Israel, highlighting their struggles for recognition and integration.
