Facing West: One Family’s Journey from India to Israel (1945-1955)

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education presents an immersive program exploring one family’s journey from India to Israel in the decade surrounding statehood. Through original letters, archival photos, and music of the era, the presentation captures daily life in Palestine (Israel) on the brink of independence. Pioneer songs and Baghdadi-Indian Jewish pizmonim express the determination and longing that shaped the era, offering a powerful way to mark Yom Ha’Atzmaut.
