Circulating Zion: Global Photojournalism

Hosted By: Sir Martin Gilbert Learning Centre

This talk examines the role of international photojournalism in the history of Zionist politics. It shows that photographs circulating globally were of particular importance to the protagonists of Zionist public relations both in Palestine and worldwide. Their voices and those of international news editors, photographers and journalists show that while international journalism would change the dominant perception of Palestine, it also led to an appropriation of Palestine for a variety of new political purposes.

Host

Sir Martin Gilbert Learning Centre

Sir Martin Gilbert was a master chronicler of the twentieth century, with a remarkable ability to bring history alive to his audiences. Perpetuating this legacy, the Centre offers a wide program on the subjects Sir Martin spent his life exploring: modern Jewish history, Israel, the two World Wars, the Holocaust, and Sir Winston Churchill. We run short courses, lectures, and conversations that reach thousands of students across the UK as well as in the United States, South Africa, and Israel.
