A View From the Pulpit: A Behind the Scenes Tour of High Holiday Prayers and Music
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
A synagogue’s High Holiday experience is months in the making. Great thought is put into crafting services intended to inspire us with the multi-faceted aspects of these holy days. In this course, join Rabbi Amy Wallk and Cantor David Lipp as they talk about the important themes they consider when preparing High Holiday and Sukkot/Simchat Torah services for their congregations and how these ideas can add richness to your synagogue-going experience. This course will go “behind the scenes” and explore how the clergy decides which prayers to include and which melodies to select. Additionally, this course will highlight alternative prayers and music that don’t make it into “typical” holiday services as well as diverse melodies from cultures and communities around the world. Join us for this exciting opportunity to tackle our most important holidays from a new perspective.
