A Journey Through the Jewish Heritage of Hungary

Hosted By: Qesher

This virtual journey explores the rich Jewish heritage in contemporary Hungary, visiting synagogues, cemeteries, and museums to uncover historical remnants. Participants will trace Jewish history from Roman times through the Middle Ages, the Ottoman Empire, and the growth of the Ashkenazi community under the Austrian Monarchy. The tour also examines the survival of Jewish heritage after the Holocaust and the fall of communism in cities like Sopron, Esztergom, Pécs, and the North-East region.

Host

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
