When/how/where at camp did you meet?
We first saw each other in the dining hall at Capital Camps, but we weren’t formally introduced until the next day in Habima (the Amphitheater). We were introduced by a mutual friend, at the start of staff week. I was a Unit Head, and he was a counselor (not in my unit).
Was it love right away?
We met very early in the summer, and really enjoyed spending time together. However, I don’t know that either of us realized what was going on until he came back with me to New York City after camp and stayed for two weeks. When we decided to try a long-distance relationship between Israel and the U.S., I think that was when we knew we crazy – about each other. That year apart was hard, and both of our families and friends thought we were insane, but we made it work and I moved to Israel the next year to be with him. Almost 8 years later here we are.
Do you find that your time at camp has influenced your relationship/marriage/family?
Camp has definitely influenced our relationship. It gave us a common lexicon and a very solid foundation of values. We both find it amusing to look back and see where we are now.
Did you have any camp themed thing at your wedding?
The former Executive Director of camp married us! Additionally, friends from camp were in both of our wedding parties.
Will you send your kids to camp?
Of course! Beyond being the place where we met, camp is a transformative experience and I hope our kids will have that opportunity one day.
