Exploring the Five Megillot: Scrolls of the Jewish Year (Trimester #1)

Hosted By: Haberman Institute

The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies presents a 27-week course on the Five Megillot—Qohelet (Ecclesiastes), Song of Songs, Eicha (Lamentations), Ruth, and Esther—each linked to a different Jewish holiday and dimension of human experience. Divided into three trimesters, the course engages these texts through literary, historical, theological, and rabbinic perspectives. Students will study the scrolls closely with classical and contemporary commentaries and compare the distinct role each plays in Jewish liturgy and tradition.
