Dancing through Yiddish Literary New York: A Guided Tour

Hosted By: YIVO

YIVO Institute for Jewish Research presents a walking tour of New York’s Lower East Side focused on early 20th-century Jewish dance culture. Participants will explore how Yiddish-speaking immigrants engaged with urban dance spaces as expressions of leisure, identity, and social change. Led by a scholar of Yiddish literature and dance, the tour highlights key sites and themes such as Americanization, gender roles, and cultural adaptation—no Yiddish knowledge required.
