High Holydays Lecture Series: Reflections on Rosh Hashanah

Hosted By: London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS)

The Shofar and the Complexity of our Existence – Dr Tanya White (3.00pm)

Leonard Cohen, in his song Anthem, speaks of a crack where light can get in. Whilst humans will naturally tend towards harmony and order, reality on many occasions produces instead disequilibrium, chaos and cracks. The sounds of the Shofar oscillate between these two states of human nature and invites people to see teshuva as both a return, a response and an answer to the fundamental question of existence.

Integration and Integrity: Finding Our Wholeness on Rosh Hashana – Rabbi Joseph Dweck (3.40pm)

Rosh Hashana is a day in which we take inventory of our lives before God. In doing so we must consider who we are and identify the components of our character. In this talk, you will look at finding a personal unity in those components and achieving a wholeness as you begin the new year.
