There’s nothing like sitting back in a big comfy chair, brewing a cup of hot tea, and reading a good, classic book. Like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie or Green Eggs and Ham.

Seriously. Children’s literature isn’t just for children. J.K. Rowling taught us that lesson pretty thoroughly.

So why not head over to your local library and check out some of these fine pieces of Jewish children’s and teen literature. The Association of Jewish Libraries just announced the winners of the 2009 Sydney Taylor Book Awards.

Included in the list is
As Good As Anybody
, by Richard Michelson, which is an illustrated book tracing the lives and friendship of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. Another winner,
A Bottle in the Gaza Sea
, by Valerie Zenatti, portrays the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from the voices of two teens.
