Finding the time to make homemade sufganiyot or sfenj for Hanukkah is amazing. But sometimes you just can’t muster the energy for a big baking project. Or maybe you don’t even like donuts (are you OK?). Either way, I have the easiest Hanukkah dessert to try and it’s only TWO INGREDIENTS: store-bought cookie dough and Hanukkah gelt coins, that’s it.
Watch my short video below to see how easy it is.

Great idea 👍🏻
Fry bread. Great idea for the Cookies too✨
Chanukah and Xmas are on the same day this year. Part of our family is not Jewish. I’m going to make the Chanukah cookies, and make some with a chocolae Xmas decoration. Everyone can enjoy their holiday!
Chanukah and Xmas were not on the same day in 2024. Xmas was in the middle of Chanukah. Chanukah is a full 8 days. It’s not just 1 day. Don’t equate them.
Here in Santa Fe New, Mexico we like to celebrate our Sephardic traditions as well as Ashkenazi ones. So my friend an I have decided to make Fry Bread instead of Sufganiyot this year. My daughter’s paternal family have been here in the Southwest since 1577.
I have two grandchildren going to school in Az. The history of Santa Fe is of interest to me. You are lucky to go back to 1577 on your daughter’s paternal side. Have a Happy Chanukah….love fry bread too.
Easy recipe but it would also be fun to make a cookie dough recipe from scratch, a basic sugar cookie recipe, and then shaping the dough with Hanukkah cookie cutters in the shape of dreidels, menorahs and chocolate money and then adding the sprinkles of your choice and baking the cookies on a greased pan in a preheated 350F oven til light brown on top, around fifteen minutes. Happy Hannukah.
I love your recipes. Where can I get the chocolate gelt?
Trader Joe’s! Or any Jewish grocery store.
