The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research presents a discussion with Itay Zutra on his new book “Introspectivism: Yiddish Poetry and Jewish Identity in 1930s America,” which studies the poetry written in New York by the In Zikh, also known as the Introspectivists or Inzikhistn. The book explores how the worsening conditions of European Jews and the rise of totalitarianism in the early 1930s pushed the poets to address the theme of cultural heritage and reconnect with their Jewish roots, carving out room for Yiddish-speaking American Jewish identity. The discussion is moderated by Justin Cammy.
