Yiddish is Alive and Well and Living All Over the Place
Hosted By: Chicago YIVO Society
Yiddish has been rapidly gaining prominence across the world. Professorships and university programs are increasing, and major universities are now offering Yiddish for fulfillment of the language requirement. Yiddish classes at all levels, live and online, are offered by organizations such as YIVO, the Workers Circle, and the Paris Yiddish Institute, to name only a few. Klezmer groups and choirs draw large audiences, as do performances on stage and in film. Lectures in and about Yiddish are increasingly popular, and audiences have greatly increased thanks to Zoom.
Professor Jeffry Mallow, Professor Emeritus of Physics, Loyola University Chicago and Affiliate Professor, University of Haifa, will present examples of each, and more.
