Walnut Street Synagogue presents a screening of “Xueta Island,” a documentary exploring Inquisition history, Jewish revival, and identity on the Spanish island of Mallorca, where some Catholics have faced discrimination for centuries because their surnames connect them to a Jewish heritage. The film follows those inspired to return to the faith of their ancestors and the controversy their recent entry into the local Jewish community’s leadership has caused among its members. The screening, available for two days beforehand, is followed by a director talkback with filmmaker Dani Rotstein.
