What’s New in the Cairo Geniza
Hosted By: Haberman Institute
The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies hosts a lecture on recent discoveries from the Cairo Geniza, the worn manuscript repository of a medieval Egyptian synagogue whose fragments arrived in Cambridge, England in 1897 and doubled the world’s known Geniza collection overnight. More than a century later, the digital revolution and AI have accelerated the pace at which these texts yield their secrets, and discoveries continue at a furious pace. The session reveals how these fragments are rewriting the history of Jews in the premodern Middle East and beyond.
