What Is Jewish Art? Modernity, Identity, and Creative Expression
Hosted By: The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University
Siegal Lifelong Learning will present an image-rich talk examining how “Jewish art” is defined across subjects, style, symbolism, and artist identity. The session will explore the impact of modernity on Jewish participation in the art world and trace contributions from the nineteenth century to the present. It will also consider the role of women and ask what makes these works distinctly Jewish, both conceptually and visually.
