What Do Jews Believe Today?

Hosted By: Haberman Institute

The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies presents a session with Rabbi Fred Reiner reflecting on a statement of core Jewish values that he drafted in response to the early days of the Trump administration, when many new values were articulated that challenged core Jewish values. What began as a simple statement, in the tradition of Jewish belief statements in Europe and the United States, was endorsed by Washington-area retired rabbis and ultimately signed by more than 600 rabbis and cantors and shared among congregations across the country. The session examines the Jewish sources that underpin the statement and the role of Jewish values in shaping communal response to the challenges of the time.
