Underwater Cabaret: The Story of Holocaust Survivor Curt Bloch
Hosted By: Congregation Rodeph Sholom
Congregation Rodeph Sholom presents an immersive art installation inspired by Onderwater-Cabaret, the clandestine poetry magazine Curt Bloch created while in hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Rediscovered decades later by his family, Bloch’s work is now preserved through a published volume, a digital archive, and an exhibition at the Jewish Museum Berlin. The program includes opportunities to hear from Bloch’s daughter, Simone Bloch, and Thilo von Debschitz, who will discuss Bloch’s life, the rediscovery of his journals, and efforts to preserve his legacy.
