The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy presents a tour with Bradley Shaw exploring Harlem’s history as the third largest Jewish neighborhood in the world from 1870 to 1930, after New York’s Lower East Side and Warsaw. The walk covers legendary institutions including the Institutional Synagogue (the “shul with the pool”), Temple Israel, the Ethiopian Hebrew Synagogue known as the Commandment Keepers, and Ansche Chesed, one of the oldest congregations in the United States.
