The Women of “Shtisel”

Hosted By: The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University

The typical conception of an ultra-Orthodox Jew is a man wearing a long black coat and a black hat. The hit Israeli TV show “Shtisel,” broadcast on Netflix, has plenty of those men, but it also has many strong female characters. In this talk, we will learn more about Ruchami, Giti, and Tovi and how they represent real trends in Israeli ultra-Orthodox society.

Taught by Michal Raucher, Assistant Professor, Department of Jewish Studies, Rutgers University.
