The Reluctant Davener
Hosted By: London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS)

This shiur (Talmudic study session) will explore the complexities of prayer: how we habituate ourselves to it; what it does — to us and ’to’ God; and why, for some, it is so difficult. It will ask: what is Tefillah / Davening / Prayer? Who ought to pray, and how? Why do some people take to davening like a duck to water, whilst others struggle to embue it with any real meaning? Why do some religious Jews daven several times a day, whilst others barely make it through the minimal brachot (blessings)?
In an attempt to answer these questions, we will examine several of the Rosh HaShanah tefillot (prayers) and discover their meaning — for the day itself and for us, the pray-ers.
This event is at 8 AM EST and 1 PM in London.
