The New York Jewish Mah Jongg Festival

Hosted By: Kveller, The Museum of Jewish Heritage-- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust

We’re hosting the biggest Jewish mah jongg festival ever — and you’re invited!

Whether you are a complete beginner to the game, a seasoned expert player, or someone who just wants to learn some history and have some fun, you’ll enjoy this one-of-a-kind celebration of all things mah jongg. It’s all presented in partnership with Kveller and two of the country’s most respected teachers — Dara Collins and Donna Kassman, the founders of Modern Mahjong.

Day 1 of the festival will include:

  • Beginner mah jongg lessons
  • Intermediate/advanced mah jongg lessons
  • Social and tournament play
  • Chances to learn mah jongg history and the Jewish connection to the game
  • Vendors selling tile sets, mah jongg merch and other shopping goods
  • Free lunch and snacks
  • Appearances from well-known mah jongg players
  • Opportunities to network with players from across the country in one of New York’s most beautiful institutions
  • And more!

More advanced players can also sign up for a Day 2 tournament, which will award fun mah jongg-themed prizes. Tickets to Day 2, which ends at 1:00 p.m., will include snacks but not a full lunch. If you would like to attend Day 2, you must register separately in addition to registering for Day 1 of the Festival. If you would like to attend Day 2, you must also attend Day 1.
