The Jews of Croatia: A Rich Heritage of History and Culture

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher explores the history of Croatia’s Jewish community from Roman times to the present, tracing its development in cities such as Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb. The session highlights historic synagogues and examines how the community endured persecution and deportation during World War II, including the continued work of the Zagreb Jewish Community Center during the Holocaust. It also looks at how today’s small but active community preserves its heritage through education and cultural life.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
