SUMMARY:What History Teaches: Art and Experience in a Fragmented World
DESCRIPTION:The Alabama Holocaust Education Center and the Holocaust Education Resource Council present a program on Expressionist artists and their clash with Nazi cultural ideology. The session examines how abstraction\, distortion and bold color conveyed emotional truth\, even as the regime condemned such work as “Degenerate Art” and imposed censorship\, exile and persecution. It also considers how artists used visual language as an act of defiance that endured beyond oppression.

SUMMARY:Creative Writing on Jewish Themes
DESCRIPTION:Online creative writing workshops with author Shira Nayman \nMany of us have stories we want to tell that relate to our experiences of being Jewish. We feel called to write about personal family history or find ourselves interested in exploring Jewish identity in the modern world. \nIn My Jewish Learning’s new creative writing workshops\, we’re offering a space in which those wishing to write on Jewish themes can come together in community and develop and share their work — in the form of fiction\, creative nonfiction or memoir. Participants will be guided by Shira Nayman\, a clinical psychologist and author of five books on Jewish themes\, as well as essays and short stories. Shira has taught creative writing at Barnard College and Columbia University\, as well as in private workshops and volunteer spaces\, and she is passionate about the cultivation of Jewish identity through the written word in our tumultuous contemporary times. \nWe’re offering two identical workshop groups\, each limited to 12 participants\, and every participant will have the opportunity to workshop their writing with the class. You’ll leave the eight-week class with a trove of new work and a set of writing goals for the future. \n \nStudents will also gain access to our Circle community platform\, which will bring us together to communicate and share work between class sessions. \nNo creative writing experience is required to join in — Shira believes that writing groups flourish when the participants bring different levels of experience to the work. Everyone is an expert in their own search for expression\, which means that in a deep human sense\, we are all at “the same level” and will learn from each other. \nSPRING 2026 WORKSHOPS\nWorkshop enrollment will close once a group has 12 participants. Learn more and register below. \nGroup 1:\n8 Sundays from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. ET\, starting March 1\nDates: March 1\, March 8\, March 15\, March 22\, March 29\, SKIP FOR PASSOVER\, April 12\, April 19\, April 26 \nGroup 2:\n8 Wednesdays from 8:00 – 9:30 p.m. ET\, starting March 4\nDates: March 4\, March 11\, March 18\, March 25\, SKIP FOR PASSOVER\, April 15\, April 22\, April 29\, May 6

SUMMARY:Jews and the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a landmark virtual series as we commemorate 250 years of the Jewish experience in America\, exploring the profound ways Jewish identity and the American story have shaped one another. Through a series of monthly conversations over the course of this year with the nation’s leading historians\, we will journey from the arrival of the first colonial settlers to the vibrant\, diverse communities of the modern era. \nOn March 12\, we begin the series with Professor Jonathan Sarna\, who will cover three essential topics regarding Jews and the American Revolution.\n  \nFirst\, Americans looked to the story of biblical Jews to justify independence; this is why Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson supported a national seal depicting the Exodus from Egypt. Second\, Jews contributed to the Revolution in a myriad ways. While their overall numbers were small\, many lived in or had taken refuge in Philadelphia\, serving as soldiers\, merchants\, bond dealers\, and more. Third\, and perhaps most importantly\, the Revolution impacted Jews by granting them new rights far beyond mere toleration and transforming American Judaism. The democratization of Judaism and the Jewish community in the United States began in 1776. \nWe invite you to join us for this lecture with Professor Jonathan Sarna followed by Q&A with New York Jewish Week\, editor at large Andrew Silow-Carroll. \n \nThis is an online only event. After registering\, you will receive the Zoom link via email to join the discussion on March 12. The event will be recorded and sent out to all registrants 24-48 hours after the event. Please note that by registering you will also begin to receive a weekly events email from our 70 Faces Media brands. \nQuestions can be sent to events@70facesmedia.org. \nYou can register for the entire series here. The entire package of at least eight events costs only $54. \nRegister for THIS event by clicking the Buy Tickets button on this page.

SUMMARY:Friday Evening Shabbat Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Shabbat service! We rotate between Shabbat B’yachad\, Shabbat Shirah\, and a Classic Shabbat: \nShabbat B’yachad is Temple Israel’s signature Friday evening service featuring a tapestry of contemporary and familiar Shabbat melodies. \nClassic Shabbat is an elegant worship service featuring classical cantorial music in a traditional Reform style\, familiar English prayers\, and a Torah reading. \nShabbat Shirah is a soulful musical service “in-the-round” with energetic and participatory singing in the style of modern Reform Israeli\, and post-denominational minyanim. Some of the melodies will be familiar and others will be new\, but do not fear: all the words will be provided in Hebrew\, transliteration\, and English so you can participate easily. Our wonderful musicians will be accompanying us in leading the service.
