The Interracial Left and the International Workers Order, 1930–1954
Hosted By: YIVO
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research presents a discussion of “From Popular Front to Cold War,” a book about the International Workers Order, founded in 1930 by leftist Yiddish speakers to provide insurance and social support to working-class members. At its height, the organization promoted labor rights, interracial solidarity and progressive social programs, drawing nearly two hundred thousand members from diverse communities. The program examines the IWO’s cultural and political influence and the circumstances that led to its dissolution during the Cold War.
