The Dead Sea Sectarians: A Righteous Remnant in a Fallen World
Hosted By: Haberman Institute
The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies presents a program exploring how the writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls saw themselves as the only true remnant of the Jewish covenant, whose constant quest for perfection would lead to their salvation. Their belief that they alone were the true Jews created, at best, a complicated relationship with other Jewish leaders and communities. The session examines their place in Second Temple Judaism and how their exclusionary theology shaped the Jewishness of their day.
