Sugihara’s List
Hosted By: YIVO
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research presents a program on the legacy of Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese diplomat who issued thousands of visas in 1940 that enabled mostly Polish Jewish refugees to escape. Though the promised destination of Curaçao was a fiction, those he rescued ultimately found refuge in Japan, the Shanghai ghetto, Australia and New Zealand. The session features a discussion of “Sugihara’s List,” which examines his actions and the lives he saved during the Holocaust.
