The program traces how Sephardic Jews fleeing the Portuguese Inquisition in Brazil settled on the island\, secured Oliver Cromwell’s protection\, and helped develop the British sugar industry\, followed later by Ashkenazi arrivals. Participants will also learn about the rise\, decline\, and present-day makeup of Barbados’s small Jewish community.
