Southern Discomfort: A Personal Journey of the Jews of the South (USA)

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher presents a talk tracing more than three centuries of Jewish life in the American South across thirteen states. From early Sephardic settlers to later Eastern European immigrants, the session highlights stories of adaptation, resilience, and contribution to Southern culture through commerce, cuisine, music, and civil rights. Drawing on work with the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience in New Orleans, the speaker also weaves in personal perspective as a Southern Jew.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
