Sneak Peek — Jewish Sicily: A Hidden World Rediscovered
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education presents a preview with travel educator Dr. Kathy Aron-Beller of “Jewish Sicily: A Hidden World Rediscovered,” a Melton travel seminar taking place in December 2026. Through history, images, stories, and Jewish learning, the session explores the flourishing of Jewish life in Sicily under Roman, Muslim, Norman, and Spanish rule, the rise of Crypto-Judaism after the expulsion, and the rediscovery of the island’s hidden Jewish heritage today. Participants will glimpse the hidden gems of Palermo, Siracusa, Trapani, and Taormina, along with ancient underground mikvaot and the island’s extraordinary blend of Jewish, Arab, Greek, and Christian cultures.
