Shakspeare and the Jews
Hosted By: Orange County Jewish Community Scholar Program ("CSP")
The Community Scholar Program presents a session on Emilia Bassano Lanier, the daughter of Venetian Jewish converso musicians and a compelling candidate for Shakespeare’s Dark Lady. The program examines her Jewish family roots, her life as a woman in Elizabethan England, and her poetry published in the Jacobean period. Participants will also explore parallels between her writing and Shakespeare’s to consider the influence they may have had on one another.
