The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies presents a course on the historical roots of modern Judaism, focusing on the transformations of the Second Temple period. The program will explore the canonization of the Bible, insights from the Dead Sea Scrolls and Apocrypha, and the rivalries between Pharisees, Sadducees, and other sects. Participants will also consider when Jews began to observe Torah law and how these developments paved the way for the emergence of Rabbinic tradition.
