Royal Women: Biblical Midrash on Tamar, Ruth, Michal and Batsheva
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

Tamar and Ruth, both outsiders to the Israelites, are ancestresses of the royal house. Michal and Batsheva, wives of David, have their own roles in shaping the future. In these sessions, we’ll encounter ancient and medieval midrash (interpretative stories that elaborate on the biblical narrative) as well as contemporary midrash on the lives of these four powerful women connected by the lineage of King David. We’ll consider art as well as written midrash, we’ll ask questions of the biblical text and the commentaries, and we’ll ask our own questions about what these women can teach us today.
This is a weekly class on 7/13, 7/20, 7/27, and 8/3. Sign-up permitted after the first class.
