Retracing Jewish Heritage in the Bronx
Hosted By: Qesher
Qesher presents photographer Julian Voloj’s exploration of New York’s diverse Jewish communities and the abandoned synagogues he discovered after moving to the city in 2004. Struck by how quickly neighborhoods like Harlem, the South Bronx, and Brownsville were losing visible traces of Jewish life, he began documenting buildings as they deteriorated or were repurposed. His black-and-white photographs evoke memory and history while reflecting on heritage, loss, and cultural reinvention.
