Qesher Book Club: ‘Gursha’

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher presents a program on “Gursha,” in which chef and restaurateur Beejhy Barhany shares the food traditions of the Beta Israel, Ethiopian Jews. Born in Ethiopia and later settling in Harlem, she tells her story through more than 100 dishes drawn from her family, her restaurant, and her travels. The book also introduces readers to Ethiopian Jewish rituals, holidays, and milestones and is the first major cookbook centered on the cuisine of the Beta Israel.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
