Photographs, Memory, and Torn Landscapes: Israeli Artists Responding to October 7th
Hosted By: Orange County Jewish Community Scholar Program ("CSP")
Community Scholar Program presents a lecture marking Israel’s Memorial Day and Independence Day that examines how Israeli artists responded to the trauma of October 7, 2023. The session traces the project that became the traveling exhibition and book “Album Darom,” beginning with daily posts by scholar and photographer Prof. Dana Arieli documenting life in the Western Negev. Through historical and contemporary images by professional photographers and ordinary residents, the program explores how photography became a way to witness loss, resilience, and survival.
