Parsha Posters: Towards a Contemporary Judaica
Hosted By: Association of Jewish Libraries
Parsha Posters is a radical reimagining of Biblical illustration, interpreting ancient text through modern graphic design. Inspired by minimalist concert and theater posters, this series of images — one for each parsha, or Torah portion — retells familiar stories in surprising ways.
Artist Hillel Smith will speak about the images and the process of creating them, including careful readings of Biblical texts. He will also put the project in a greater context of contemporary Jewish art and visual storytelling from the last 1800 years, demonstrating how Jews across the ages have always been engaged in infusing their faith with the aesthetics of their time.
