Online History Course: Jewish Women, Race, and Ethnicity in America

The intersection of Judaism and race in America has always been complex, and Jews of all backgrounds have been active in both creating and resisting these designations. Join us for this four-session course exploring how Jewish women have experienced and understood some of these racial and ethnic groupings from the early nineteenth century through today.
March 4: Multiracial Jews in the Early United States, with Laura Arnold Leibman

March 25: Black Jewish Women in Contemporary America, with Tema Smith
Laura Arnold Leibman is Professor of English and Humanities at Reed College and the author of multiple award-winning books on Jews and Jewish life in early America. Most recently, she wrote The Art of the Jewish Family (2020), winner of three National Jewish Book Awards.
