Online History Course: Jewish Women, Race, and Ethnicity in America

The intersection of Judaism and race in America has always been complex, and Jews of all backgrounds have been active in both creating and resisting these designations. Join us for this four-session course exploring how Jewish women have experienced and understood some of these racial and ethnic groupings from the early nineteenth century through today.

March 4: Multiracial Jews in the Early United States, with Laura Arnold Leibman
March 11: Latina Jews in the United States, with Laura Limonic
March 18: Sephardic Women in America, with Devi Mays
March 25: Black Jewish Women in Contemporary America, with Tema Smith

Laura Limonic is Associate Professor of Sociology at SUNY Old Westbury. She is the author of Kugel and Frijoles: Latino Jews in the United States, which won the 2020 Best Book Award in Latin American Jewish Studies.
