The talk will include a look at a number of specific examples from antiquity, including Philo of Alexandria, Pseudo-Phocylides, and New Testament Gospels, and show the range of ways ancient Jewish authors adopted, adapted, and engaged with Greek genres.

Professor Sean Adams

Sean Adams is Professor of New Testament and Ancient Culture at the University of Glasgow and current head of Theology and Religious Studies. He has authored and edited eleven books, most recently Greek Genres and Jewish Authors: Negotiating Literary Culture in the Greco-Roman Era (Baylor University Press, 2020). He is a founding member of the JISC Digital Research Community Council Member and on the British Academy’s Higher Education Policy Development Committee.
