Medieval Jewish Daily Life Meets Israeli Art

What was daily life like for European Jews a thousand years ago?

How would we even know?

How can we connect to that long-ago reality to appreciate it better?

Over the past two years, members of “Beyond the Elite: Jewish Daily Life in Medieval Europe”, a Hebrew University research group, met with seven Israeli artists, presenting the historical sources and conclusions of their research concerning the lives of medieval Jews who lived among Christians in the urban centers of northern France and Germany.

A new exhibit presenting the fruits of this scholarly-artistic collaboration seeks to communicate the complexities of daily life at that time, which saw constant communication and synergy between Jews and Christians, all while the communities certainly remained quite distinct.
