Making Kinot Meaningful
Hosted By: London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS)
The London School of Jewish Studies presents a special Tisha B’Av session exploring ancient and modern kinot as a living language of Jewish grief, memory, and responsibility. Focusing on selected elegies, the class examines their historical context, poetic craft, and emotional power, moving from recitation to deeper understanding and personal engagement. The session concludes with contemporary kinot shaped by the Holocaust and October 7, considering how this tradition helps Jews give voice to loss, build collective memory, and find meaning and resilience today.
