SUMMARY:Jews in the Qur’an – How Are Jews Portrayed by the Qur’an: A Study of Qur’anic Texts
DESCRIPTION:Valley Beit Midrash presents a text study exploring what the Qur’an actually says about Jews. Terms like “Israelites\,” “Jews\,” “People of the Book\,” and “rabbis” appear throughout the text\, and scholars have long debated whether these references reflect hostility or respect. This session will examine the verses themselves and how they have been interpreted in Muslim tradition.

SUMMARY:Friday Evening Shabbat Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Shabbat service! We rotate between Shabbat B’yachad\, Shabbat Shirah\, and a Classic Shabbat: \nShabbat B’yachad is Temple Israel’s signature Friday evening service featuring a tapestry of contemporary and familiar Shabbat melodies. \nClassic Shabbat is an elegant worship service featuring classical cantorial music in a traditional Reform style\, familiar English prayers\, and a Torah reading. \nShabbat Shirah is a soulful musical service “in-the-round” with energetic and participatory singing in the style of modern Reform Israeli\, and post-denominational minyanim. Some of the melodies will be familiar and others will be new\, but do not fear: all the words will be provided in Hebrew\, transliteration\, and English so you can participate easily. Our wonderful musicians will be accompanying us in leading the service.

DESCRIPTION:Qesher presents a look at the uniquely integrated Jewish community of Venezuela\, shaped by both Ashkenazi and Sephardic traditions. In the 20th century\, Jews from Romania and Morocco built a unified kehila that reflected the racial and cultural mixing of broader Venezuelan society. Though many have since emigrated\, the community continues to preserve its rich\, shared heritage.

SUMMARY:Dark Shadows Hover — A Sephardic Boy During the Holocaust in WWII Yugoslavia
DESCRIPTION:The Jewish Study Center\, in partnership with Sephardic Heritage International DC (SHIN-DC)\, presents a class on little-known events of the Holocaust and World War II in Yugoslavia. The session centers on “Dark Shadows Hover\,” a fictionalized memoir based on the real experiences of Moric “Moris” Albahari\, a Sephardic Jew from Bosnia who escaped Nazi capture as a child and became a partisan courier.
