SUMMARY:Mini-Class Series: From Pesach to Shavuot-From Love to Law: A Journey With Sacred Texts
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Jewish Sacred Aging\, this three-part mini-series on Zoom explores classic texts traditionally studied between Passover and Shavuot. Each session\, led by Rabbi Richard F. Address\, focuses on a different text and its relevance to contemporary spiritual life and aging. The first session looks at “The Song of Songs\,” the M’gillah assigned to Passover\, exploring its themes of love and sensuality and asking why it belongs in the Bible. The second session focuses on “Pirke Avot\,” a collection of ethical and moral teachings\, with discussion centered on passages that speak to today’s adult and elder communities. The final session explores “The Book of Ruth\,” the M’gillah of Shavuot\, and its enduring message about relationships\, belonging\, and intergenerational connection.

SUMMARY:Future Tense
DESCRIPTION:London School of Jewish Studies presents the final part of its year-long course on the writings of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks\, focusing on his bold and sometimes controversial book “Future Tense.” In it\, Rabbi Sacks argues that while Jewish perceptions of isolation are understandable\, they can lead to harmful decisions and missed opportunities for engagement with the world. The course will explore key themes—Jewish continuity\, antisemitism\, and Israel’s global role—through the lens of recent events and Rabbi Sacks’s enduring belief in hope and humanity.

SUMMARY:Understanding the Mental Health of the Jewish Community Through Research and Practice: Resilience in the Face of Trauma
DESCRIPTION:With Dr. Tara Liberman\, Founder and Director of the Jewish Community Mental Health Initiative and Dr. Aleksandra (Sasha) Soykin\, moderated by Kveller editor Molly Tolsky. \n  \nWednesday\, May 14\, 6:00 p.m. ET \nThis talk will be informed by what we have learned from hundreds of support groups facilitated with the Jewish community and our ongoing research. It will highlight the capacity of the Jewish community to engage in the process of healing and a shared sense of resilience. How do we channel our skills and access our strengths in times of trauma and crisis? How do we experience distress and grief while simultaneously creating meaning and regain a sense of self and community efficacy? We will think together about how we may impact change in a meaningful way in our own communities\, families\, and lives.

SUMMARY:Friday Evening Shabbat Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Shabbat service! We rotate between Shabbat B’yachad\, Shabbat Shirah\, and a Classic Shabbat: \nShabbat B’yachad is Temple Israel’s signature Friday evening service featuring a tapestry of contemporary and familiar Shabbat melodies. \nClassic Shabbat is an elegant worship service featuring classical cantorial music in a traditional Reform style\, familiar English prayers\, and a Torah reading. \nShabbat Shirah is a soulful musical service “in-the-round” with energetic and participatory singing in the style of modern Reform Israeli\, and post-denominational minyanim. Some of the melodies will be familiar and others will be new\, but do not fear: all the words will be provided in Hebrew\, transliteration\, and English so you can participate easily. Our wonderful musicians will be accompanying us in leading the service.
