Jews on Broadway: A Night of Theater and History

Hosted By: The New York Jewish Week

Just before this year’s Tony Awards, brush up on your Jewish Broadway history — through song!

Broadway musical talent Ari Axelrod will take you on a journey through some of the key parts of the American Jewish songbook, singing and discussing works by Bernstein, Sondheim, Gershwin, and Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Taken together, the show is a celebration of Jewish culture, honoring the songs and stories of Jewish composers and their crucial contributions to the American musical. While there are many stories in the world about Jewish suffering, there are fewer stories about Jewish life and vitality. Our history is not only about how we survived, but also about how we thrived — and Axelrod’s show highlights this in its exploration of Jewish Broadway.
