Qesher presents a virtual tour through Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm exploring how Jewish life began in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden under very different circumstances, from King Christian IV’s invitation to Jewish families to settle in Denmark in 1622 to the heroic rescue of the vast majority of Denmark’s Jews in 1943. The session traces the Nordic region’s shared history from the Viking Age through the Kalmar Union alongside the very different paths of the Jewish experience in each country. Participants will also learn about Norway’s wartime tragedy and Sweden’s role as a refuge for its Nordic neighbors and Jews fleeing persecution across Europe.
