Jewish Tales of Wales

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher explores the history of Jews in Wales from Roman times through the medieval and early modern periods, when small Jewish communities played an outsized role in the Welsh imagination. The talk traces the emergence of modern communities from the eighteenth century and their growth through waves of immigration, particularly from Poland and Lithuania. Focusing on Cardiff, Swansea, and smaller towns, it highlights notable individuals, changing communities, and the decline of Welsh Jewish life after its peak between the two world wars.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
