Jewish Siberia: Russia’s Promised Land

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher will host a talk exploring Jewish life in Siberia over the last 400 years. The session will cover how Jews arrived in the region, their settlements, and activities, including a focus on Birobidjan, the Jewish Autonomous Region near the Chinese border. The presentation will highlight the unique aspects of Jewish life in Siberia, where street signs are still found in Yiddish, and the region’s extreme temperature variations.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
