Known as the “Mother of Israel” and the “Jerusalem of the Balkans\,” it was Europe’s largest Sephardi city for more than 400 years and a refuge that fostered a distinctive cultural heritage. This talk traces the community’s history from its origins to the present\, exploring the traditions and qualities that made Salonica an essential chapter in Jewish history.
